The Legacy - Our History

A Life at Sea: Meet Sergio

As a certified whale-watching guide and expert skipper, he has dedicated his life to the protection and conservation of the Teno-Rasca Special Area of Conservation (SAC). His deep knowledge of the local ecosystem ensures that every encounter is respectful, educational, and deeply moving. When you step aboard, you are not just a passenger, but a guest of a man who has called these waters home for nearly three decades.
Sailing with Sergio is like seeing the ocean through the eyes of a legend. A true local guide with over 26 years of experience.

36 Years of Maritime Heritage

The story behind the name that redefined whale watching in Tenerife
THE LEGACY (THE TRADITION)
It all began in 1990. For nearly three decades, our captain and crew have sailed the waters off southwest Tenerife, learning the language of the tides and the behavior of short-finned pilot whales. We are pioneers of respectful whale watching in Tenerife.
THE LEGEND OF BONADEA II: OUR HERITAGE
In 1993, the original Bonadea II catamaran set sail for the first time, marking the beginning of our deep connection to the Atlantic. For 25 years, it was our home and our school. While this iconic vessel no longer sails, its spirit lives on in every expedition we undertake today. We proudly carry its name as we continue its legacy of marine conservation.
2018: A NEW ERA. THE DIOMEDEA
In 2018, we decided to redefine the Atlantic experience. We chose the Diomedea, our flagship vessel specifically designed for low-impact ecotours. We opted for a more intimate, quiet, and sustainable experience that allows you to observe the natural behavior of cetaceans.

Protectors of Southwest Tenerife

Our mission is simple yet profound: to connect people with the ocean whilst minimising our impact on the marine environment. We do more than just run tours; we act as guardians of the Teno-Rasca Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

As proud signatories of the Charter for Sustainability, our commitment goes beyond mere words. We are a logistical and scientific platform for leading conservation organisations.

We actively collaborate with:
  • The La Tahonilla Wildlife Recovery Centre (Tenerife Island Council) on the rescue, care and exciting release of turtles and seabirds.
  • The universities ULL and ULPGC, the Tonina Association, Calderones de Canarias, Innoceana, Latitud Azul, the Angel Shark Project, Manta Catalog, and Ray of Paradise on marine regeneration projects and technology applied to conservation.
CLEANING THE OCEAN: OUR DAILY COMMITMENT
The ocean gives us everything, and we give back by taking care of it. On every expedition, our crew is vigilant for plastic waste. By removing this hazardous debris from marine life, we ensure a safer environment for cetaceans and a cleaner legacy for the Atlantic.
RESCUE AND LIBERATION: LIFE BEYOND THE TOUR
Conservation is at the heart of our philosophy. We work closely with local rescue centers to assist in the recovery of injured or endangered marine species, from rescuing trapped sea turtles to monitoring cetacean populations. There is no greater reward for us than seeing a recovered animal return to its home in the depths of the ocean.
